Frenzy!

Time to complete:

The concept, and things like the flow of play and some basic rules came together in about 2 minutes, but the board and actually writing a decent (readable) ruleset took about 25 min

This is a Game for 1-4 players, though more players could be accomodated if I made more tracks (more on that when we get to the rules).

Components

1 board

4 Dice: 1 yellow, 1 blue, 1 red and 1 green.

4 meeples/figures: 1 pink, 1 purple, 1 orange, 1 white.

Objective:

To be the first to reach the finish line by moving along different tracks colored yellow, blue, red and green.

Rules

  1. Choose a tentative starting order and take a die accordingly.

  • the first player to roll takes the yellow die
  • the second player to roll takes the blue die
  • the third player to roll takes the red die
  • the fourth player to roll takes the green die.

From this point on, the turn order in any given round is determined by possesion of the colored die in the sequence presented above, this means

any player may roll twice or more times in a given round if he or she can get his hands on different dice during their turn.

     2. A player throws the die he has at hand on his turn. A Player`s turn is determined by what die he has at any moment

     3. After the roll, said player is allowed to move that many spaces in any direction he or she wishes along the tracks, with the following caveats.

  • On the first move, the player must move along the track of the same color as the dice he or she has.
  • At intersections between tracks, a player may choose to stop his turn and switch dice with any player whose die correspond to a color of the  intersected tracks
  • ther is a penalty of 1 to the die roll every time a player switches tracks, or moves along a track and his die is not the same color. Starting a turn at an intersection does not count as changing tracks

     4. After a person has moved his or her turn ends and the person who has the next die in the sequence gets to play.

Hard to see the board. Not sure how easy the penalty is to implement. I think that there should be a bigger disadvantage to moving along the "wrong" colour. Have you play tested yet?

Sorry about the image... turns out haste DOES make waste. Sadly, I did not playtest it at the time of posting and didn´t think of doing so until friday, if at all. However, I do see where it could get confusing if you take into account that it´s a sort of dynamic penalty (a question I asked myself regarding this went something like: "if I can move one more space, but I want to change colors, can I do that or does the penalty of -1 prevent me from switching at all?") but I don´t like what I have come up with to address the issue so far. I guess that if I do playtest it someone could think of something.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it
