Frontier

(15 Minute Game Challenge)

Components:

- 6 sided die

- paper, pencil

Create a Path: Draw a path approximately 5 inches long. Add equa-distant circle spaces along the path starting with the beginning of the path and finishing with the end so that there are a total of 5 spaces on a path.

Each player places his token on the first space.

On your turn roll a 6 sided die.

On a roll of 1-4 move your token exactly that many spaces in any direction. If the dot is open you may claim it by writing your intials inside the circle. End your turn.

On a five or six you must Create a Path that bisects the dot space you are on unless it has already been bisected. End your turn.

Scoring:

Claim a Space: 2 points

Claim 3 Spaces in a chain: 5 points

Claim 5 Spaces in a chain: 10 points

Game ends when all spaces have been claimed in which case the player who has the most points wins (continue if a tie exists) or a player reaches 20 points first.

What do I do if I roll a 6 on the first turn? I just tried it and that happened :P

On a six you must Create a Path that bisects the dot (I meant space) you are on unless it has already been bisected. End your turn.

Well I guess what I'm getting at is do I start on a particular space to begin with? I was a little confused on that. I've gotten all 5 lines drawn on the path so would I draw a line from space one to space 5?

Never mind, I just saw it..

Interesting, but can you backtrack? if you must move the number of spaces rolled, what if there are not enough spaces? say you rolled a 4 and to the right there are 3 spaces, to the left there are 2 and there are no bisecting paths. would i move either 3 or two, or would i backtrack?

Just ran into that myself. On a roll that you cannot complete without backtracking you would not move at all. Also there is an obvious issue to deal with when paths inevitably cross each other multiple times.

It's an interesting idea though, creating the board as you go with paper and a pen. Reminds me a bit of Carcassone with how paths are built as players add tiles.

What happens on a 5 or 6 when a bisection has already been drawn? Do nothing?
