Turtle Hare

Page history last edited by Isi 14 years, 9 months ago

Overview

A race between a turtle and a Hare.

It is a game for 2 players. There are two kinds of pawns: turtle (slow) and hare (fast).

The board game is linear, with a starting cell and an ending one. Some of the cells are special, the flipping cells.

Rules

  1. One player chooses turtle and the other hare.
  2. One player rolls the dice and move.
    • If he is a turtle, it will move so many cells as the number.
    • If he is a hares, the double.
  3. When a pawn arrives to a cell already occupied by another pawn:
    • If the two pawns are turtles or hares, nothing happens.
    • If the pawn that arrives is a hare, nothing happens.
    • If the pawn that arrives is a turtle, the two pieces are switched. Now the turtle becomes a hare and the hare a turtle. The turtle moves slower but it has this "power".
  4. When a pawn arrives to a flipping cell, only this pawn switch: if it is a turtle becomes a hare and the hare a turtle.
  5. The first that arrives to the ending cell (it is not necessary to get an exact point) wins.

Variation

  • When a pawn arrives to the same cell already ocuppied, it CAN decide if switch or not. This will allow some strategies, specially if the game is played by more than two.

To be done

  • Generalize two more that 2 players. Rule 4 need to be reviewed.
  • Draw a board and decide the number and place for the flipping cells, trying to find a nice equilibrium.
