Scrambble

(Race to the end game)

Time to complete: 5-7 minutes to "design" + about 15 minutes when I found out Google Docs includes drawing functionality.

Board: Several starting points with paths that criss-cross toward a common goal.

At intervals along the paths, letter tiles (e.g., like in Scrabble) are placed

Play: Based on a dice roll, the players move forward (as designed in this initial draft, I think they would only be able to move forward/sideways, not backwards) toward the finish, picking up tiles along the way. Player 1 can intercept the path of Player 2, causing Player 2 to have to switch directions or face going down a cleared path.

If two players land on same space: one tile chosen by Player 1 from her collection is exchanged with a tile that Player 2 has chosen from his collection

Once a player reaches the finish, she no longer rolls the dice, but on each turn gets to remove a tile from an opponent's collection (to be discarded)

When all players reach the finish, they each create the best word possible with their letter tiles (certain points are assigned to each letter: A is worth 1; X is worth 5, for instance).

Points are added up based on value of letters, unused letters are subtracted from ech player's score.

Very Rough Drawing (many more interval squares/letter squares needed)

Leana - not sure why; I'll try again, though there's not much to add, other than in a "Look, Google Docs is capable of terribleness" sense.

This game seems like it would be very fun after a little tweaking, maybe have half of the tiles face down or something.

Daniel: I think more occasions where players have to swap tiles on the way to the finish could benefit it as well.
An second option for a player who has reached the finish: instead of just discarding another player's tile, she might pick up two tiles off the board, "shuffle" them, and put them back on the board face down..?
