Alien Race

A game for 2 or more players. (recommended for 2-4, probably works best with 2) Play time under 5 minutes.

UFO's attack! You and your friends must run to safety or be abducted.

Components: The board, a six-sided die, a pawn for each player

Setup: Each player chooses a pawn and places it on the 'start' space. Randomly choose a player to go first.

Rules: Players take turns. On each players turn, that player rolls the die and moves his or her pawn forward that many spaces. There are five kinds of spaces a player can land on:

- If he or she lands on a tile with a UFO, he or she loses the game: remove his or her pawn from the board. If there is more than one player left after this, the game continues. If there is only one player left, that player wins.

- If a player lands on a tile with a house, he or she may choose to hide inside it if there is no-one else hiding in that house already. If he or she does, the game ends for him or her. (but he or she may still win, see later.) If there is still at least one player left in the game, the game continues.

- If a player lands on the arrow, he or she must move one pawn back to the start space. (If all other pawns are still on the start space, that player must move his or her own pawn.) Hiding pawns can't be moved.

- Landing on an empty space has no effect.

- If a player passes the finish line, that player wins.

If all players have either been abducted by UFO's or gone hiding, the player who is hiding the furthest from the start (and the attacking UFO's) wins.

The theme is fun, and the board is nice and bright. Seems like it would play very quickly. I'll have to give it a try.

Seems like a lot of focus would be on the last few squares. Could abduction symbols be placed earlier as well, do you think? Also, not many blank squares.

Dan: Yes, it should play very quickly. It is possible to get eliminated early on in this game, and therefore I didn't want the game to go on for too long after some players have lost.

Mike: I purposefully left the first six spaces UFOless so you can't die on your first roll. But maybe I could have added a little more spaces in between.
